On September 15, 2018 hero-city of Novorossiysk with the support of Delo Group and NCSP hosted an opening of the memorial “To the port workers of Novorossiysk” – the unique, first-in-Russia memorial for the people of this vital, difficult and honorable profession.
2018 is generous for anniversaries at Novorossiysk: 180-years anniversary of foundation of the city, 45-years anniversary to it having been awarded a title of hero-city, 75-years anniversary of defeating the German fascist troops at Novorossiysk. Unveiling of the memorial “To the port workers of Novorossiysk” joined the line of festive occasions. History of the port commenced in 1845 when with the decree of the Emperor Nikolay I a port was founded. Today Novorossiysk sea port is the largest in Russia by throughput and one of the largest ports in Europe.
The initiative to commemorate the hard work of the port workers belongs to Sergey Shishkarev, President of Delo Group, native of Novorossiysk. Life and work of his parents, of his Delo Group inseparably linked to this city. The idea was supported by the executive management of Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port and by the city Administration. The project was financed by Delo Group and NCSP on parity basis together with donations from private individuals and companies.
The unveiling ceremony took place on the city seafront next to the Port Administration. Igor Dyatchenko, Head of Novorossiysk city, Igor Yakovenko, CEO of DeloPorts – Novorossiysk stevedore business of Delo Group and Igor Terentiyev, first deputy CEO of NCSP participated in the ceremony.
Author of the monument is Konstantin Kubyshkin – famous sculptor who created many monuments to the Russian historian personalities such as Ekaterina the Great in Simferopol, Russian Hero Akhmat Kadyrov in Grozny and legendary Cossack Ermak in Surgut.
DeloPorts CEO Igor Yakovenko welcomed the participants of the ceremony and expressed gratitude to all involved in making this event possible: “Delo Group is grateful to the executives of NCSP for the support, to Igor Dyatchenko and to all who made contributions to creation and installation of this sculpture for supporting the initiative of Sergey Shishkarev to commemorate port workers of Novorossiysk. Heroic past and modern achievements of the port, it’s input in city, region and country development would not have been possible without their professionalism and dedication. This monument is a token of appreciation and respect, it shows that the community honors and values tireless labor of port workers – people who daily contribute to the social and economic development of our country with their work, honoring their city and their country".
It is fortunate that the year of unveiling of the monument is the year of Delo-Group 25th anniversary. For a quarter of a century our people, citizens of Novorossiysk work for the benefit of the city and the country. And now their input in the development of Russia is in a proper way marked on the city map and in the city history”.
