Global Ports Acquires Nine RMG and RTG Cranes for VSC Terminal in the Far East

The port cranes were manufactured and delivered for VSC by ZPMC corporation under a contract concluded with Global Ports following the Eastern Economic Forum in 2022.

Four RMG and three RTG cranes will operate in the storage yard, with two more RMG cranes at the railway front. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and perform operations 25% faster than the equipment already in use. The yard cranes can stack containers up to six tiers high. With the purchased equipment, VSC's fleet of RMG cranes will grow by 50% to 15 units, the fleet of RTGs will expand by 40% to 11 units. The new equipment will increase the efficiency of cargo handling and allow to gradually grow container storage capacity from 34,000 TEU to 38,000 TEU in 2024.

Global Ports CEO Mr. Albert Likholet noted: "We purchased new cranes as part of our investment programme aimed at expanding the VSC throughput capacity. Global Ports is consistently increasing the operational capacity of the terminal in Primorsky krai against the backdrop of increasing containerised cargo throughput in the Far East Sea Basin. By the mid-2030s, VSC will be able to handle up to 1.7 million TEU annually".

In the first nine months of 2023, VSC’s container throughput totalled 475 thousand TEU, which is 4% more than in the same period a year earlier. In the coming months, the terminal will receive eight tractor-trailers, three straddle carriers and two forklifts with load capacities of 16 and 32 tonnes.

In 2023, as part of the capacity enhancement programme, VSC commissioned two Liebherr LHM 550 heavy-duty harbour cranes and four reach stackers, including two with increased lifting capacity. In addition, in 2022-2023 Global Ports relocated more than 25 units of port equipment from North-West Terminals to VSC. < Back to list
