In November 2021 the largest intermodal container operator in Russia, TransContainer, a part of Delo Group, closed the deal for the acquisition of property complex of International Zabaykalsk Terminal (the second terminal) at the Zabaykalsk station, a strategic land crossing the Russian-Chinese border.
The purchase of the second terminal was made as part of the key strategic objectives of the Company to increase assets capacities in key locations and building a natural transport bridge between production and consumption centers.
After the reconstruction, the second terminal is going to be merged with the existing TransContainer terminal into a single organizational and production structure, which will ensure the processing of containerized cargo of all directions. At the same time, the existing terminal will be dedicated on foreign trade and transit cargo, considering the introduction of "end-to-end" technology, whilst the second will become "rear", providing local work and declaration functions. After the reconstruction of the facility, the Group is planning to increase its capacity in Zabaykalsk to 0.5 million TEU by 2024.
Sergey Shishkarev, Chairman of the Board of the Group, commented on the deal: “Zabaykalsk is one of the largest points of cargo flows traffic between Russia and China. We believe that the expansion of our capacities in this key location for foreign trade and transit is in line not only with the Group's strategy of providing customers with prompt and high-quality service and increasing the share of the container transportation market, but also in the country's strategic interests in the development of transit and containerization. We expect that our efforts will give impetus to expand the capacity of the railway infrastructure access to the station and the border checkpoint located here».
