To obtain permission documentation storage facilities were allocated and equipped at ULCT, additional security and technical systems were installed, and the personnel was trained. The capacity of the new storage area is 100 thousand tonnes.
Ust-Luga Container Terminal started handling of mineral fertilisers in April 2024. In the summer of 2024, ULCT increased the permissible draft at the berths to 12.6 metres, which made it possible to receive Panamax vessels with a displacement of more than 50,000 tonnes. The terminal infrastructure allows receiving block trains with a length of 71 conventional wagons and, under favourable weather conditions, handling up to 10,000 tonnes per vessel per day.
Fertilisers arrive at the port already in specialised containers and from them they are reloaded into the vessel hold. The use of such technology makes the process more technological and efficient. In order to handle bulk cargo in specialised containers, ULCT has installed three tilting spreaders on the STS cranes. Two more are expected for delivery in early 2025.
ULCT handles both hazardous and non-hazardous mineral fertilisers. The terminal performs handling using Global Ports own specialised containers and also provides rail platforms to transport containers from the fleet of the customers. In addition to ULCT, Global Ports terminals Petrolesport and First Container Terminal in St. Petersburg also perform marine handling of fertilisers. In the first 10 months of 2024, Global Ports terminals handled 3.1 million tonnes, 39% more than in the same period in 2023. < Back to list
